WIKA Optical Sensing Ltd (was Oxsensis)

WIKA Optical Sensing Ltd, formerly known as Oxsensis, is a specialist in optical sensing technologies for pressure and temperature measurement, particularly in demanding environments where traditional electrical sensors may not be suitable. Established in 2003 as a spin-out from the STFC’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, the company has a strong heritage in developing Fabry-Perot based optical solutions for industries such as aerospace, power generation, and process industries. In 2023, Oxsensis was acquired by WIKA, becoming WIKA Optical Sensing Ltd in 2024, and now operates as part of the WIKA Group from its base in Oxfordshire.

The company’s core offerings include advanced optical sensors capable of dynamic and static pressure measurement, as well as combined pressure and temperature sensing within a single sensor head. These solutions are designed for extreme environments, including high temperatures up to 1000°C and cryogenic conditions, and are immune to electromagnetic interference. WIKA Optical Sensing’s technology is widely used in gas turbine combustion monitoring, aerospace systems, and process industries, providing reliable, high-accuracy measurements where conventional sensors cannot operate. The use of sapphire in sensor construction ensures durability, thermal stability, and resistance to corrosion.

In 2025, WIKA Optical Sensing continues to expand its product range and manufacturing capabilities, building on its ISO 9001 and AS9100 Rev D accreditations. The company is actively introducing new industrial and process sensors to the market, supporting customer needs in power generation, aerospace, and cryogenics, and collaborating with industry partners to deliver innovative solutions for challenging measurement applications, as highlighted on its official website.
